The Ford EcoBoost Wet Belt Replacement
Ford’s EcoBoost provides small displacement yet relatively powerful engines with impressive fuel economy. As part of the drive for increased fuel economy and reduced emissions, the engine is engineered with a ‘wet-belt’ to drive the cam-shaft assembly.
Historically the vital camshaft timing belt, which connects the upper and lower engine assemblies, is housed outside the engine away from fluids. In recent years, Ford, alongside many other manufacturers opted to house the timing belt submerged inside the engine where it runs continuously through engine oil - hence the term wet-belt.

While the belt is designed to last the lifetime of the car (Ford’s vehicle life is likely around 7 years) It’s well known that the long-term service interval is flawed as the timing belt material breaks down and causes oil starvation and eventually engine failure.
As the belt material breaks down (due to the engine oil) particles gradually break away which can cause a blockage in the engine oil strainer, leading to oil starvation and major internal damage.
It is therefore essential that annual oil servicing is maintained, using the correct engine oil.

Ford have now reduced the service life of these timing belts to 6 years or 100k miles.

We have invested in all of the correct tooling to carry out wet cam belt repairs on the Ford EcoBoost engine range. Our technicians follow the factory replacement procedure, use OEM parts and fluids, and replace all components exactly as Ford designed. All repairs are supplied with a 12-24 month warranty.
